The Embracing our Differences exhibition is held every year and this year our photo was one of the 39 selected photos out 6454 submissions representing 80 countries, 42 states and 118 schools!

This is the 12th year of the annual exhibition and the theme was, ‘enriching lives through diversity’.  All the selected photos were made into 16’x12.5′ billboards and are on display for the months of April and May in two locations in Florida.

This is an incredible concept for an exhibition and continues to spur conversation and educate people on the importance of diversity and how it truly does make the world a more colorful place.  Read their mission statement below:

“Embracing Our Differences believes that diversity is one of the world’s greatest assets. To realize the promise of diversity, we must ensure that everyone is respected, included and valued for their individuality. Our goal is to create a community where diversity and inclusion are honored while teaching the importance of being an “up-stander,” not a “by-stander.”

The centerpiece of Embracing Our Differences is an outdoor juried international art exhibit featuring 39 billboard size images created by local, national and international artists, writers and students reflecting their interpretations of the theme “enriching lives through diversity.”

The photo we submitted was taken by Alison Andersen and features one of our models, Paralympian, Jaye Milley.

We find this image to be so powerful and titled it ‘When Everyone Else is Trying to Stand Out…’.  This is a a very obvious commentary about how hard everyone tries to be different, or unique to set themselves apart from everyone else.  It is very easy to see how effortless it is for Jaye to do so and how much confidence he is exuding in embracing his identity.  Super powerful.
